Pollen and Spore Classifynder

No other affordable desk top system exists today that is able to achieve an acceptable level of accuracy, repeatability and consistency in the location and classification of fresh or undamaged pollen and spores mounted on glass slides.

The Classifynder offers researchers the ability to explore new horizons in the science of palynology and provides significant time and labour savings.

The Pollen and Spore Classifynder is now a 3rd generation semi-automated microscope stage and software system that can locate, segment, image and classify pollen and spores in the size range 100µm to 5µm in diameter. The system will also capture and image broken or deformed fossil pollen.

The Classifynder system allows researchers to automate the creation of image libraries of pollen and spores that are in focus across the full depth of field with embedded metadata very suitable for the use in pollen database or key creation. The creation of virtual image libraries allow researchers to subsequently return to explore all or any of the slide objects without remounting the slide. The system also visualizes the spatial distribution of all objects of interest on the slide so that any object segregation or related slide quality issues and be identified.

Classification is performed using a neural net classifier and algorithms that have been trained on images of known objects by the user. The Classifynder software runs on a conventional PC or laptop, is easy to use and requires no specialist knowledge of image processing techniques or user interventions.

The Classifynder features dark-field lighting and digital microscopes with an effective magnification (from object to screen) on a typical PC set up of 400x at low resolution and 1000x for the high resolution microscope (2000x for objects less than about 10 micron in diameter with down sampling turned off).

Export your data, share your images: by adding geo-location, sample name and other meta-data to each slide and this is automatically tagged to each image from that slide.  Send your images in PNG image formats with embedded metadata able to be read and extracted by a wide variety of image reading, cataloguing and editing software.

Export raw morphological parameter data in CSV formats and then use this to explore statistical correlations in Microsoft Excel,  ‘R’ or any other software able to able to import this format.

Upgrades

Lighting and lens upgrades kits for prototype Gen 3 systems.

We offer lighting and upgrade kits for older Gen 3 Classifynder prototypes to bring up to a common optical standard with later systems.
This is a return to base service so call us for a quote including air courier and insurance.

New slide holder and upgrade kits.

New Gen 3B Classifynder systems are shipped with a single slide holder. This single ‘whole slide’ format slide holder allows almost all of the area of a conventional 75 mm x 25 mm slide to be scanned.  The following standard cover slip area formats can be scanned:

10 by 10mm,
22 by 22mm
40 by 22mm
67 by 12mm

A user defined ‘ROI’ scan is also selectable within a 67 by 22mm scan area window.
(NB: Release 3 software is required to operate the wide format slide holder).
These can be fitted to older Gen 3 and Gen 3A systems.

Customisation

Customized Classifynder systems.

Want polarized light, bright-field, or multi-spectral analysis? We are able to offer customized optic’s, lighting and alternative imaging algorithms to provide imaging and classifying systems that can be applied to a wide variety of microscopic and macroscopic biological particles or objects.
Talk to us about customized systems for other objects of interest.

Training

Training and Calibration.

We can offer pre-analysed sample slides that allow users to be trained and systems to be calibrated.
